Staying On Track

In the first week of the new year, my enthusiasm for new projects knows no bounds. Closets are cleaned, gym memberships are bought, and impulse buys are shunned. Surely, I think to myself, this will be the Year of the Improved Me.

And then around January 8th, cold hard reality sets in. The cruel alarm clock summons me from my toasty warm bed for a pre-dawn jog. I glare resentfully through the darkness at the Merry Husband and Merry Dog, who snore away happily to themselves. If only I could console myself with the purchase of a new Lilly Pulitzer shift...drats.

In short, I'm in need of inspiration. Luckily, this morning a friend pointed me to this story from the Today Show. The blog Runs for Cookies brought together twelve runners who had each lost over 100 pounds. Together, they ran the Ragnar Relay, a 200 mile race from Miami to Key West.

So, if you find your resolve fading too, take a few minutes to watch their remarkable journey. Suddenly, that morning jog doesn't seem so odious anymore.

  1. Hello:
A jog at any hour of any day seems positively barbaric to us so we are totally impressed by your record to date.Keeping up your schedule until 8th January we regard as an absolute triumph....you deserve the new Lilly Pulitzer shift!!!

Wishing you a joyous, healthy and peaceful 2013!

    1. Glad to see you, Jane and Lance! Happy 2013 to you as well. I may "reward" myself with a new shift in a couple of weeks. :)

  2. Dear Merry Wife,
Jogging and I just don't seem to go together! My sister is the family jogging fiend (along with her son) while my brother in law is in to long distance bicycle racing.
Me? I'm in to reclining on the settee reading. I did however spend at least two weeks in late autumn getting up early to do a brisk walk around the village and along the river however the momentum quickly wore off as AGA did not join me but remained (like your MH and MD) snug and warm in bed and blissfully unaware of my morning 'sacrifice'.

I agree with Jane and Lance and I think that you deserve your new Lilly Pulitzer shift just for contemplating the idea of jogging! Have you a colour in mind?

    Bye for now

    1. I prefer lounging to jogging, but we do what we must. :)

The one I have my eye on is a cheerful green and blue print with sea turtles.

  5. I'm back, I was on the iphone heading into the gym, surprisingly it's empty here, normally you can barely get in during January with all the new resolutioners.
Lily P wise, if I'm usually a US 4 in a dress, would I stick with that or size down? I might stalk Ebay for a bit of Palm Springs fun.

    1. The "Worth" shifts seem to run a little big, while the "Camden" shifts seem to run a little small. In general though, I think you should be safe with a 4. For sizing questions on current items, I would suggest emailing The Pink Pelican. http://www.thepinkpelican.com/contact.php

If you decide to go vintage, most sellers will give you the actual measurements of the dress instead of or in addition to the label size, which is extremely helpful.
