Snow Day

We had a snow storm yesterday, which meant that I got to work from home in my pajamas, a novel experience for me. Another first: I made a snow angel.

Merry Dog didn't find the snow nearly as entertaining as I did. She was too busy growling her disapproval over the snow plow guys.

With my little front yard art installation, I've officially knocked 9 items off my Day Zero Project list. I'm making some progress on a few of the long term goals too. I've committed to running the Toronto Waterfront Marathon on October 19, 2014 (yikes). And I've started to learn Cantonese. I've downloaded an app called Earworms Rapid Cantonese, in which a very sexy sounding British guy tells you how to order a round of drinks. So far though, my attempts at communication with the Merry Husband in his native tongue have been a flop. Apparently, the Cantonese phrase for some drinks sounds a lot like the word for stupid (oops).

I hope that all of you had a very Happy New Year, and that 2014 brings health and happiness your way.

    1. I will say that I smiled for a good hour after my snow angel. Nothing like a good excuse to act like a kid again to make you happy!

  3. You are brave to learn Cantonese, which I understand is even harder than Mandarin. Luckily, I have found that Native speakers of Chinese dialects tend to be very forgiving of mistakes, a good thing considering the linguistic crimes that I commit on a daily basis.

    Have a great 2014,
    Jim

    1. Happy New Year, Jim!

I think my in-laws are just really happy that I'm trying to learn. They definitely don't expect me to be any good at it. :)

  4. Happy New Year missus! Good for you learning a new language. Any one who says English is the hardest language to learn hasn't tackled conjugating French verbs!

  6. Hehe just don't get a tattoo!

(or any of the similar posts out there. A friend of mine thought she'd got a tattoo saying 'peace' during her gap year ... only apparently her left hip proudly proclaims 'wheat'!).

Does your Earworm speak Cantonese with a British accent? I spoke Spanish with a strong Welsh accent for three years, until I stayed with a family in Castilla y León during my A Levels!

What a wonderful start to the year, ticking off so many great things from your list! Hope the new job is going well, indoors in your pyjamas or at the office!

    xxx
