What to Pack for a Nor'Easter

Sunday ushers in the Year of the Snake, so Happy New Year (again)! The Merry Husband and I plan to fly to New York tomorrow to celebrate with his family. I say "plan" because this is apparently what will hit the city just as we are scheduled to land.

Fighting Nemo!

Biggest Storm Since 2010!!

Historic Blizzard Threatens Outages!!!

A friend called to warn us that we should pack food for the trip, lest we be stuck in airport limbo. On the way home from work tonight, I stopped by our local Japanese supermarket to pick up essential provisions.
Rice Crackers with Seaweed

Strawberry Pocky Sticks

Sakura Mochi
We shall be prepared like Boy Scouts. But wish us luck anyway.

  1. Mochi snacks and Pocky sticks would be my choice in a snow storm - stay warm!

  2. Hello:
This all sounds to be a little alarming and we do wish you well.

As it happens we are going to celebrate the Chinese New Year here in Budapest and have been invited out to dinner to mark the occasion. But we think that it will be a little less traumatic.

Good luck and a safe return!

    1. Sadly, our flight this morning was canceled shortly after I made this post. The Merry Husband is a little less merry right now.

      Enjoy your dinner out!

  3. Do hope that all is well with your trip - may be you will be like us. We thought the snow was coming back and getting colder but it has suddenly turned mild again. Is that last item fish? I can't make it out.

  4. I have just checked it out on google and see that it isn't fish but a sweet rice cake!!!

    1. Sorry for the poor quality picture! The mochi look a little strange, but they're very tasty. That particular kind is like a pancake rolled around a sweet lima bean paste. The whole thing is then wrapped in a cherry leaf.

    1. I'd really been hoping that we could sneak in before the storm hit, but it was not meant to be. The Merry Husband, a New Englander at heart, was disappointed that we will miss the snow. He said he was looking forward to shoveling the walk!

  6. I am eating a Mikado as I type this! (Much like a Pocky Stick, if you don't have them in the US). Very good snacks for night shifts, as well as airports.

Sorry to hear you won't be celebrating with the Merry Parents-in-Law. I hope you two can have a warm and festive time at home. And, very happy new year to you both!

    1. I don't think I've seen Mikado before. But they do look a lot like Pocky sticks. :)

We made the best of it and went out for Chinese food with my family. We'll try to have a re-do with his family sometime this Spring.
