Ocean Trails by the Trump National Golf Course

On Sunday, the Merry Dog asked if we could go for a walk, so we drove to the scenic Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes. A golf course might seem a strange place to hike, but Mr. Trump was kind enough to build a large visitor lot and public park on prime real estate on the course. Several trails lead from the course, going to the Terranea resort to the west and the city of San Pedro to the east. The fog rolled in and out during the afternoon. Sometimes we had beautiful vistas. Sometimes we could barely see the ocean at all.

  1. Hello:
This looks to be a spectacular place in which to walk affording as it does, fog permitting(!!), the most wonderful views of the sea. It is so good to see that in developing the area as a golf course consideration was given to others who would enjoy and take advantage of the area and that much of it permits public access.

    1. Hello Hattatts!
There was actually much wrangling between the city council and Mr. Trump during the permit stage of the construction. It was quite the local saga. I think, though, that everyone would agree now that the park and trails are a wonderful addition to the area.

  2. Hello, Those are incredible ocean vistas, but if I were walking there, I would like to go along the rocky beach, trying to identify local plants and rocks, and perhaps looking for bits of flotsam.

    1. Sadly, doggies aren't allowed down on the beach there, so we didn't go explore. There are some fantastic tide pools and coves in the area though.

    1. It's a bit of a drive from your side of L.A. (and there are so many great trails up where you are), but I highly recommend it!

  4. There has been a lot of controversy and wrangling going on in the north of Scotland in an area of outstanding natural beauty over one of Donald Trumps golf courses. As usual it is the little man that has been hit hard. The fishermen and their cottages, have been "trumped" with their land and views being spoilt by the big man. He has given large amounts of money to the city of Aberdeen which the city cannot afford to refuse as it will improve their local services, but he has done that because it serves his purpose and helps him to do whatever he wants.
However, it looks as if he has made some good facilities in your area for you to enjoy. The views are lovely.

    1. I'm sorry to hear that. Most of the nearby residents are extremely wealthy (as you can tell from the rather large house behind the crow), so it wasn't a full-out David v. Goliath situation here. Maybe more like Gogmagog v. Goliath. I hope that Trump can be persuaded to be respectful of your neighbors and your environment.

  6. Oh California. Your coastline is beautiful. When I was thirteen my family went on holiday to see exactly that; we drove from LA to San Francisco, stopping in Santa Barbara, Big Sur, etc. (and then from SF down to San Diego via Yosemite), and all we could see was fog. For the entire trip along the coast.

Now I really really want to go to the seaside ...

    1. That is incredibly disappointing. Last weekend, we drove up the coast and you'd never know there was an ocean down there.
