We Were Born to Run

It's been a tense couple of hours as the Merry Husband and I have waited for news that our friends who were running and spectating at the Boston Marathon were okay. As of now, all but one friend has checked in on Facebook, Twitter, or RunningAHEAD. God bless the internet.

There were some close calls. One friend reported that she crossed the finish line about a minute before the first explosion.

My heart goes out to the victims of this terrible tragedy and to those who are still trying to reunite with their loved ones.

  1. It's ironic that after reading blogs in which people are trying to build up the quality of life in so many ways, I come across dreadful news like this, about people who only want to tear things down.

    1. I'm still in a state of disbelief. I was comforted, though, by reports that many of the runners who finished before the blast immediately ran to Mass General Hospital to donate blood for the victims. There is still more good than evil in this world.

    1. The last one (finally) checked in. Huge sighs of relief, but bittersweet knowing that other people have lost friends and family today.

  3. Oh my, what terrible news. I am glad your friend is doing well. It is quite worrisome because we don't know yet who did this.

  4. The human spirit is indomitable - it is always reassuring to learn how many people will put their own lives at risk to help save strangers in the face of adversity. So pleased to learn that all of your friends were safe.

  5. Dear MW,
It was horrible to wake up to this news this morning. It makes me think: Whatever next. However, like Rosemary, it is heartening to read of the many people who without a second thought leapt in to help, to rescue, and to save.
